Students applying for renewal will be issued with a student pass with a maximum duration of 12 months. To avoid overstaying your student pass, UTM recommends that the Student Pass Renewal application be submitted (together with all required documents) 3 month the student pass expiry date.

  • Please renew your student pass three (3) months before expiry date. Students are responsible to monitor the expiry date of your pass (i.e. Student pass expiry on 15 February 2019, you can submit renewal by 15 November 2018)
  • Overstaying is an offence in Malaysian Law. Immigration will impose a penalty ranging from RM1,000 – RM5,000 depending on the duration of your overstay.
  •  Students who are late in submitting their application for the renewal of Student Pass will be required to pay a penalty and UTM may impose fine.

HOW MUCH COST FOR RENEWAL A STUDENT PASS?
A: It will cost student range RM750-RM850 (depend on country)  for 12 month pass renewal  inclusive health insurance, EMGS fee, Multiple Entry Visa fee ( Immigration fee) , i-card  and UTM admin fee. Student have to pay to 2 separate account that is EMGS and Bendahari UTM for renewal process. 

WHAT IF LATE SUBMISSION FOR RENEWAL OF STUDENT PASS?
A: UTM International will impose a fine for late submission of renewal of student pass. If student submit within 
a. 5-7 weeks before expiry – fine RM50
b. 2-4 weeks before expiry – fine RM100
c. < 0-2 weeks before expiry – fine RM150+ RM1,100 for Special Pass & Immigration compound 
 
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE RENEWAL OF STUDENT PASS? (Renewal Flowchart)
A: It should take around 5-7 weeks   upon receipt of a complete document and payment. You have to submit the document at UTM International counter. The application for renewal must be send through EMGS by the University  to obtained Supporting Letter prior submission for sticker endorsement at Immigration Department.
 
I’M REMOTE SUPERVISION STUDENT AND STILL WORKING AT HOME COUNTY.  I CANNOT STAY LONGER TIME IN MALAYSIA FOR WAITING RENEWAL PROCESS TO COMPLETE.
A: You can submit a documents and payment for renewal your student pass +-45 days before you plan to come to UTM/ Malaysia. UTM International  do accept to received a renewal documents and payment from your representative/ friend and  submit to UTM International (Note: student have to pay to 2  different account that is  EMGS and UTM) . Upon arrive at UTM/ Malaysia (or after EMGS tracking show progress 90%), please submit your passport at UTM International  for sticker endorsement  at Immigration Department. You can track your renewal application progress at EMGS website at http://educationmalaysia.gov.my . It  will take 10 -14 days for sticker endorsement at Immigration Department.
 
WHAT IF IMMIGRATION/ EMGS REJECT MY RENEWAL?
If your application for renewal of student pass is rejected by EMGS/ Immigration Department of Malaysia, you are required to defer your studies  and return to your home country. You will be required to apply for a new student pass if this happens from home country.
 
DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY PASPORT WHEN APPLY FOR RENEWAL?
No. You are required to submit your original passport only when EMGS  tracker show progress of 90% (usually take 2-3 weeks after submission of document). Track your renewal progress at https://educationmalaysia.gov.my/

OVERSTAY PENALTY

Students are responsible to monitor the expiry date of your pass and visa. Overstaying is an offence in Malaysian Law. Immigration will impose a penalty ranging from RM1,000 – RM5,000 depending on the duration of your overstay. You may be blacklisted and deported back to your home country. You can be prohibited to enter Malaysia for a period of time. You may even be imprisoned. UTM will also impose a daily penalty charge for overstayed students.

STUDENT PASS CANCELLATION

Leaving Malaysia without  cancelling your student pass will result in the forfeiture of your Personal Bond deposit by Immigration Malaysia and can cause consequences if student decides to apply to another University within Malaysia.
